Show notes.

Sue Hitzmann has spent decades working hands-on with people in pain. Her MELT Method grew out of that clinical work: a set of self-care techniques built around fascia, the connective tissue that wraps and links every muscle, nerve, and organ in the body, and around the idea that people can learn to ease their own tension between appointments rather than depending entirely on a practitioner.

That focus overlaps with how Karuna thinks about persistent pain. Chronic pain is rarely a story about one damaged structure. It is more often a nervous system that has learned to stay on guard, and connective tissue that has stiffened around that guarding. Approaches that give people a daily practice, a sense of agency, and a gentler relationship with their own body tend to matter more than any single treatment. Our guides on neuroplastic pain and central sensitization cover the nervous-system side of that picture.

As with every episode, Sue speaks for herself. Nothing in this conversation is medical advice for your situation, and anyone with new, severe, or changing pain should see a clinician before starting a self-care routine. If persistent pain is already part of your life, our page on living with chronic pain is a practical companion to this conversation.
